All Champagne's directly from Roederer.
2002 Roederer Cristal:
Pale lemon yellow, tiny bubbles, unlike
the first time I tasted this at it's launch, now it leaps out of the
glass. Apples, minerals, yeats note, creamy, elegant and nuanced nose.
Layered and complex. Fresh acidity, elegant mousse, intense yet subtle,
refined, even a bit upfront, I think the most intense bottle I've had of
this, gorgeous. Very long and very nuanced. 96
1996 Roederer Cristal:
Very
pale golden, tiny bubbles. Apples, minerals, focus, touch of yeast and
fruity nose. Ever so slight nut touch behind, maturing. Yeast and
freshly baked bread. Fresh acidity, high but balanced mousse, fresh and
tight, lively, nuanced, crisp, intense mineral and almost smoky, oysters
and lemons, layered, very long indeed. 95
1990 Roederer Cristal:
Pale
golden, tiny bubbles. Apples, pears, more packed in minerals and yeasty
notes, sort of rounder nose. Nuanced and focused. Fresh acidity,
elegant mousse, fruity, intense, rounder palate as well, fresh and
balanced. Very long. The guy sitting next to me makes sounds as if he
were doing something other than drinking wine. Gorgeous wine. 95
2002 Roederer Cristal Rosé:
(Almost
five percent of the entire production of this wine in this vintage was
drunk at this event in New York!) Very pale salmon, tiny bubbles. Cool
minerality, just a touch of red berries over apples, incredibly nuanced
and subdued. Fresh acidity, elegant mousse, refreshing, nuanced,
delicate, perfectly balanced, superb, absolutelly stunning, to drink
this wine is an event in itself. It could just have been a bit longer
for perfection. 96
"-I'm not worried about the future
of Cristal, it makes the woman more beautiful and the menn more happy".
Frédéric Rouzaud of Roederer
Hi Christer,
ReplyDeleteI attended the same tasting and the wines showed really beautiful. However, my favourite was the 1996 Cristal, a Champagne I thought was more or less perfect. Was it your first time at New York Wine Experience? Quite an impressive organisation!
Not my first no, I've been going since 2005, to those in NY. This was my sixth. Hugely impressive organisation yes.
