2001 Château Pontet-Canet
Ruby, thin garnet rim. Scented, violets, cassis, some figs, coffee notes, liquorice, evolving. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, structured, leaner fruit, figs, leather, fairly intense, long. 91

2001 Château Gazin
Deep ruby, very thin garnet rim. Scented, dark fruits, cherries, anise, floral notes, redcurrants touch, light exotic nose, lovely nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh and lively, detailed if somewhat hollow mid palate, playful and refreshing very long. 94

2001 Girolat
Deep ruby, garnet rim. Plums, chocolate, dark fruits, intense, ripe notes, touch of figs, almost exotic, light graphite minerality beneath. Freshish acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, ripe, intense, dark chocolate, plums and figs, structured, bit woody finish. Sweet notes, ripe blueberries, long. 91

2001 Château Lagrange
Deep ruby, garnet rim. Scented, leather, tobacco, stable, hay, cassis, light floral note, detailed nose. Seems to be a brett note on it. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, softer texture, fruity, rounded, some sweet and sour cherries, blueberries, cassis, figs, lots of tobacco and leather notes, long. 89

2001 Château Calon-Ségur
Deep ruby, thin garnet rim. Scented, red and darker fruits nose, leather, violets, almost a mint note far back, flirting nose, delicate in a way, nuanced. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh, fruity, lively if leaner, almost Burgundian texture, velvety, detailed before refreshing red berries finish, long. 94

2001 Château La Gaffeliere
Deepish ruby, thin garnet rim. Coffee, chocolate, dried fruits, spices, exotic notes, vanilla, almost smokey nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, structured, red and darker fruits palate, frsher palate than nose, but some woodwork and spices are still a bit up front, drying woody finish but it seems the fruit can handle it. Give it five years more. 91

2001 Château Haut-Bailly
Deep ruby, thin garnet rim. Scented, dark fruits, detailed nose, quite flirting and seductive, leather, anise, figs, lovely. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh and lively palate, detailed, refreshing, detailed and long. Lovely aftertaste. 94

2008 Armand Rousseau Gevrey-Chambertin:
Pale ruby. Tight first, tighter than last bottle. At a tasting it wouldn't shine, you need to follow it. After an hour+ in decanter the redcurrants and acidity broadens into raspberries and floral scent. Same happens on the palate, lean and acidic first, later rounder, always focused and fresh. Long. 90

1989 Château Montelena Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon:
Deep ruby, garnet rim. Coffee, cassis, dusty, somewhat earthy. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, drying and dusty, by far the best of two bottles. Drying finish. 86

1989 Château Bel Orme Tronquoy de Lalande:
Smouldering cork, in neck fill. Garnet, brick rim. Lean and quite oxidized.

2010 Château Peyre-Lebade: Haut-Médoc
Ruby. Some blueberries and licorice. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, refreshing and  somewhat leaner style, balanced, OK length. Clean feel. 84

2002 Château Certan de May:
Ruby, very thin garnet rim. Blueberries, some vanilla, raspberries and some redcurrants. Layered and nuanced. Plums and almost prunes with even more air.  Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, very elegant and refreshing palate, some would say leanish. Needed twenty minutes to open fully in decanter. 92

1986 Château Cantenac Brown:
In the neck fill. Ruby with thin brick rim. Figs, warm plums, prunes, somewhat dusty and licorice. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins starting to polish off. A few astringent ones. Leanish and somewhat dry finish, but still innsiden. 90

2000 Château St. Pierre: Pomerol
Ruby, garnet rim. Licorice, some blueberries and starting prunes. Fresh acidity, lively, ripe tannins, somewhat edgy texture and might not have the fruit to age that much longer. Drink in the next two years. 86

2009 Joh.Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett:
Watery lemon yellow. Very tight, but opens up after an hour in decanter. Lemon, minerals, orange blossoms and something a bit fatter behind. Fresh acidity, lively but acidity is packed inside. Balanced and long length. Subtile. 90

1989 Château Certan de May:
In neck fill, ruby with garnet rim. Tobacco, blueberries, licorice, spicy, scented, layered and complex. Stunning nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins starting to polish off. Some sour cherries on the palate making it ever so slightly bitter. Sexy and flirting, long. A bit hollow finish. 93+

1989 Château Trotanoy:
In the neck fill. Ruby with garnet rim. Even after an hour in decanter it's tight. Scented floral overtones. Blueberries, touch of Christmas spices, black tea, come and go in the glass, opens and closes. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, mouthwatering. Tight even after two hours in decanter, a ball with things going on inside. Long but very tight.Falling apart after four hours in decanter. 95 at very best....

1970 Château Latour:
Bottom neck fill. Dark ruby with very thin brick rim. Intense nose, come out of the glass. Enormous complexity, touch of cedar, leather, cassis, plums, somewhat seductive, almost floral but nothing jumps out. Ever so slightly spicy.  More sugesting everything thats in there. Fresh acidity, quite full bodied for Latour, ripe tannins, a superior bottle to the last one, more rounded and packed in so the mountain of tannins feel more integrated. Mouthwatering, the aftertaste is extremelly long, goes on and on. With three hours in decanter it wraps the tannins in silk and gets ever rounder. 100

1999 Château d'Yquem:
Golden. VA and some apricots and vanilla. Freshish acidity, but VA overshadows, only a faint memory of former bottles.

1999 Château d'Yquem:
Golden. Apricots, botrytis, a bit tight, but never opens and lacks a lot. Almost creamy notes. Vanilla. Again a somewhat flat bottle, lacks everything that is normally in the 99. Simple and boring, faulty bottle

1996 Château d'Yquem:
Golden. Apricots, vanilla, touch of minerals, touch of honey and floral notes. More elegant nose than last bottle. Fresh acidity, elegant texture and body, it could lack something on the body, and feels lighter than my last 96, but extreme length. 94

1998 Clos du Marquis:
Ruby. Scented nose of cassis, cedar notes, almost some mint, sos bois and starting figs and leather. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, just starting to evolve, lovely now but I would keep it another four to five years. Will last longer. Long.  91

1989 Château Laville Haut-Brion:
Fill one cm below excellent cork. Pale golden. Citrus, touch of orange marmalade, some honey and tropical fruits, touch of nuts that blows off after fifteen minutes. Scented, complex and layered. Fresh and lively acidity, mouthwatering as few, extreme minerality and waves upon waves, that with air gets much more into a whole, that is extremelly long. Needed an hour to be complete. One of the longest white wines I've ever tried. 100

2001 Reichsrat von Buhl Kirchenstück Forst Riesling Spätlese Trocken:
Pale lemon yellow. Somewhat floral over subdued citrus, apples and elegant flinty touch. Fresh and lively acidity, balanced for a Spätlese Trocken, elegant body long finish. 93

1953 Château Latour:Very top shoulder fill. Garnet with brick rim. Mature nose, prunes, figs, leather, scented, adding by the minute. Fresh acidity, tannins polished away, very mature and a bit dusty far back. Cedar, a bit beyond fully mature, but this bottle not that far. Still lots of dried fruits. Subtle evolution and evolvment in the glass, the dust blows away after about thirty minutes, and just layers of pure, but dried fruit. Superb wine to meditate by the fireplace, a bit to nuanced for food, mellow and round, long. Pure enjoyment over almost three hours. 94-95

2000 Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild:
(2nd Ch. Mouton Rothschild) Deep ruby, garnet rim. Surprisingly youthful, almost barrel sample. Wakes up a bit after two hours in decanter, but still one of the youngest 2000's I've tasted in a long time. Some herbs, bell peppers, cassis, scented and youthful. Fresh acidity, almost edgy tannins, some cedar shows up, still a bit tight. Two and a half hour, it starts to open and feels more rounded. Good length and far too young. 90

2001 Joseph Drouhin Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche:
Pale golden. Rich nose, butter, nuts, minerals, evolved since last bottle about six months back. Almost smoky and bacon fat with a touch of citrus behind. Freshish acidity, rich palate, fuller than last bottle, a bit short. 91

2005 Georg Breuer Nonnenberg Riesling Auslese:
Golden. Honey, apricots, rich and deep nose. Heavy Riesling. Fresh acidity, lively and playful and quite a contrast to the rich body. Honey and almost waxy palate, good length. 92

2004 Château d'Yquem:
Golden. Honey, apricots, vanilla, pineapples and tropical fruits. Needed a few minutes to open. Fresh and lively acidity, somewhat richer and fuller than last bottle and a bit more vanilla, but the same pure fruit. Long. 94

2012 Pauillac
Ruby. Somewhat scented, slightly herbal and cassis nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity and quite and nice texture, good length. 85-87

2012 Les Forts de Latour:
Deepish ruby. Layered, complex, cassis, quite intense nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, refreshing and quite intense flavours, long finish. 89-91

2012 Château Latour:
Deepish ruby. Dense, coffee, cassis, deep, layered and complex, a bit tight nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, quite refined, fruity, refreshing, textured but velvety behind, long length. 93-95

Ruby. Ripe fruit, some plums, elegant cedary touch, vanilla and scented. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, quite textured and tannic finish. 87

2005 Les Forts de Latour
Deep ruby. Scented, cassis, some vanilla, coffee touch, some plums, nuanced and layered. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, refreshing and intense, structured, long length. 92

1995 Château Latour:
Deep ruby, garnet rim. Scented, some liquorice, cedar touch, cassis, almost a touch of mint. Complex, intense and layered nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, somewhat leaner body than nose, refreshing, long and slightly lean finish. Very long actually. Somewhat more evolved than expected. 94

Straw yellow. Some yellow fruits, steely, minerals, some lime behind. Fresh acidity, lively, fruity, minerals, lemons, quite detailed, lively and fresh for the vintage, lang. 92

2004 Château Montrose
Deep ruby. Intense, cassis, lightly spicey, fruity and layered, dark fruity nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, ripe, maybe a faint tobacco leaf and blackcurrants leaf note, long. 92

1998 Château Montrose
Ruby. Cassis, fruity, some leather, touch of cedar and spices, almost exotic, layered, scented and detailed, almost flirting. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, exotic, tobacco, quite fresh, lively, long finish. 93

2010 Giuseppe Mascarello Barolo Monprivato
Served blind. Red sweet berries, some herbs, liquorice, some roses on the nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, leaner, spices, bit thin, alcohol shows, bit herbal. Short finish. I was on Barbera blind, others on something from Southern Rhône inexpensive something. I have tasted it before and remember a different wine, but I can't find a fault on this one. 89

1948 Château Cos d'Estournel
Very top shoulder fill, soaked cork. Ruby with brick rim. Figs, prunes, earthy, leather, raisins, some faint floral notes nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh, red berries, cherry stones, detailed, mature, ever so slightly iodine in the finish, long. 94 (96 for pleasure)

1989 Château Léoville Barton
Ruby, thin garnet rim. Cassis, leather, lightly scented, some spices, touch of bell peppers. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, bit hollow, fruity, red berries, some spices, lightly glotal, good length. Not the best bottle. 89

2007 Domaine d'Eugenie Echezeaux
Ruby. Red berries, spices, detailed, tight, scented, intense, layered nose. Pepper. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh, fruity but a little bit herbal, deep fruits, has a lot going for it, but lacks some nuances, long. 94

1989 Trimbach Cuvée Frederic Emile
Golden. Peach, fruity, apricots, light nutty note far behind. Fresh acidity, fruity, lightly sweet, intense but lacks some freshness, seems to be on its way down a bit. 89

1976 Château Suduiraut
Amber. Apricots, caramel, botrytis, intense, some nuts, rich nose. Fresh acidity, fruity, intense, some nuts, apricots and dried fruits, bit lean finish. 94

89 Issan, 75 Montrose, 95 Heidsieck Millenaires and more

1995 Charles Heidsieck Blanc des MillenairesPale golden, tiny bubbles. Apples, pears, some yeast, light citrus and nutty notes, bakery, brioche, minerals, elegant and detailed nose. Fresh acidity, elegant mousse, refreshing, detailed, delicate, intense, layered, nuanced, long finish. Lovely balance. Just starting to show maturation. 95

1989 Château d'Issan
In neck fill, hardly soaked cork. Ruby, brick rim. Somewhat scented nose, some violets, cassis and with some air, prunes and figs, not the most intense but quite elegant nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, unfortunately a bit hollow fruit, somewhat lean and a bit astringent, lacks fruit and body to be a real charmer, good length. 89

1975 Château Montrose
In neck fill, soaked cork. Ruby, brick rim. Scented, cassis, light figs and leather note, liquorice, light mineral note, quite intense nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh, lively, bit sweet and sour, leaner but enough fruit to hold the remaining texture, had a slightly fruitier bottle a few weeks back, still very fine bottle, long. 92

2010 Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru
Bright ruby. Lightly scented, elegant red berries nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh, fruity and lively but lacks details and complexity. Bit tight but seemingly nothing hiding behind here. 88

2011 Domaine Ponsot Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes
Bright ruby. Scented, fairly intense red berries with a few darker berries as well, lovely nose. Faint spicey note. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh, fruity, elegant, lovely fruit but could be more complex, light and fresh, long. 90

2008 Bott Geyl Sonnenglanz Grand Cru Pinot Gris Selection des Grains Nobles
Golden. Honey, apricots, floral, intense, some VA on the nose. Freshish acidity, fruity, leaner actually but fruity palate, not fully balanced, hollow, fuller, then hollow again, fresher finish, long. 89

2002 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron
Ruby garnet rim. Scented, cassis, leather, some vanilla, elegant nose, some floral notes. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, leaner, fresh, red berries, cassis, cherries, vanilla, spices, long. 92

1989 Château Léoville Las Cases
Ruby, thin brick rim. Scented, leather, cassis, some iron. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, leaner, bit hollow, some iron, leather, prunes, figs, to me not complete or off bottle. 90

1990 Château Montrose
Deep ruby, thin brick rim. Intense, scented, ripe, rich, exotic, dark berries, blueberries. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, ripe, fruity, rich if somewhat leaner, fresh, cherries, plums, detailed, long finish. 97

Pale lemon yellow. Marzipan, apples, lemons, minerals, citrus, floral nose. Fresh acidity, lemons, apples, fresh, detailed, creamy, really fresh, especially for the vintage, long. 95

Golden. Rich, apricots, ripe, fruity, alcohol, some minerals, fruity. Freshish acidity, ripe, fruity, rich, minerals, flinty, apricots, apples, intense. Long. 93

1983 Château Ducru Beaucaillou
Ruby, brick rim. Iron, leather, cassis, lightly scented, lighter nose. Smells fifteen years older. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh, red berries, cherry stone, leaner, figs, leather, animal notes, very mature. Slightly drying. 87

2006 Melville Sta Rita Hills Pinot Noir Carrie's
Ruby. Red berries, lightly scented, rich, alcoholic, intens, fruity. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, rich, intens, somewhat sweet, fruity, ripe, bit warm finish but has sharpened up since it's youth. 89

1975 Château Ducru Beaucaillou
In neck fill. Scented, cassis, leather, figs, prunes, cedar, elegant and layered nose. Cigars and tobacco. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh, leaner body, elegant, fresh, lovely balance if a bit lean, lovely but not for everyone. 90

2001 Château d'Aydie
Deep ruby. Rich, fruity, ripe, dark fruits, intense, massive, lots of everything. Coffee. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh, cherries, liquorice, cherires, lively, fresher palate than nose, long. 92

Golden. Apples, citrus, light honey note, vanilla and minerals nose, tightens up with air. Fresh acidity, fresh, fruity, minerals, citrus, some nuts, apples, lemony finish, long. 94

2004 Château Léoville Poyferré
Ruby. Cassis, leather, vanilla, some cedar notes, fairly closed and even an hour in decanter didn't open it much. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, structured, fruity, cassis, leather, long but narrow finish, needs time. 93

2007 Montille Corton Clos de Roi
Bright ruby. Bright red fruits, tight but some floral notes and raspberries, light vanilla note nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fresh, fruity, lively before lightly herbal finish, leaner, long. 91

1953 Château Cos d'Estournel
In neck fill, but to old, thoroughly dead.

1983 Château Branaire Ducru
Ruby, brick rim. Leather, violets, leaner nose, intense cedar and cigars, figs, black tea, some coffee and prunes. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins letting go, fairly smooth, mint, lightly metallic to be picky but fading fairly soon. Good length. Very evolved for the vintage, but quite lovely.  88

2002 Comte Lafon Volnay 1er Cru Santenots
Bright ruby. Spicy, vanilla, pepper, cinamon, mint, red berries, minerals beneath, detailed nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, red berries palate, tight, firm, detailed, spicy, leaner, long if narrow finish. Seems to have been a bit barrel happiness making it from my point of view. Long. 93

2009 Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt Nieschen GG
Pale golden. Apples, minerals, fruity nose, not that telling. Fresh acidity, lively, fruity, fresh, leaner, detailed, but lacks some complexity. Long if lean. 90

2003 Dr. Pauly Bergweiler Bernkasteler alte Badstube am Doctorberg Riesling Beerenauslese
Golden. Apricots, pineapples, fruity, apples, cinnamon, minerals, intense nose. Fresh acidity, fruity, delicious, sweet, lively and playful, candied apples, cinamon and tropical fruits, long. 94
