This years release from Tenuta San Guido makes for a beatiful Sassicaia, but this year, the stars of the show from my point of view is Le Difese and Guidalberto.
I cannot recall such finesse and harmony ever in these, with lovely balance in all aspects. Just incredibly fine tuned. I can’t wait for the 2024 Sassicaia!
2024 Tenuta San Guido Le Difese
Ruby. Starting out on the leaner side, but shows more fruit and detailed both on the nose and palate with more air. Scented, some cherries, fruit forward, dark fruits, elegant nose, even some scented high notes. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, cherries, anise, juicy, detailed, elegant, lovely balance, refreshing. I think this is the most elegant and charming Le Difese I have tasted. Really blends some depth with freshness and balance that I don't really remember from earlier vintages I have tasted. 91
2024 Tenuta San Guido Guidalberto
Ruby. Blackberries, blueberries, spices, liquorice, dark fruits, nuanced and layered nose, detailed. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, juicy, dark fruits, anise, spices, detailed, lovely energy and balance, fruit forward, long finish. Lovely Guidalberto. 93
2023 Sassicaia
Ruby. Blackberries, cassis, dark fruits, anise, liquorice, gentler nose, fruit forward, detailed and elegant, touch of minty lift to it, hints of rosemary. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, cassis, dark fruits, anise, juicy, detailed, liquorice, fruit forward, somewhat richer, intense and long. 97
