Mugnier at Onda Mezzanine, winemakers dinner part II

Bright ruby. Spoiled nose by detergents, smelling only of soap first. New wine was poured and layers of fruit, scented tones, floral and touch of leather. Fresh acidity, elegant palate, ripe feel, ripe tannins, lovely balance, rounded texture, long. 92

2006 Mugnier Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Marechale:
Bright ruby. Scented, fruity, layered and nuanced, superb nose. Maybe ever so slightly herbal. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, slightly rough still, was decanted for about fourty minutes, could have had longer. Slightly herbal finish, long. 91

2007 Mugnier Nuits-Saint-Georges 1 er Cru Clos de la Marechale:
Bright ruby. Slightly scented, red berries, nuanced nose. Almost flirting. Just as open as a bottle seven hours back, but slightly tighter tannins. Long finish. Needs an hour in decanter now. 91

2007 Mugnier Musigny:
Bright ruby. Scented, nuanced, layered, ads more and more with air. Complex nose. Gorgeous even. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, very elegant. Nuanced and flirting as few, very long. Some would dislike it's leaness, but they lack perspective. 94

2009 Mugnier Chambolle-Musigny:
Ruby. Scented, flirting, elegant nose, red berries. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fairly fruity, refreshing and almost playful. Good length. 89

2009 Mugnier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuees:
Ruby. Again scented, red berries and some vanilla notes. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, a bit rough at the moment, tannins needs time. Otherwise elegant and fruity, long finish. 92+

2010 Leitz Geisenheimer Rothenberg Riesling Eiswein:
Pale golden. Apples and minerals, very pure nose. Fresh and lively acidity, lovely balance, refreshing and long. Not too complex but so playful. 92

A very dedicated winemaker who is both an engineer and has worked for ten years as an airliner pilot for Sabena and British Airways amongst others. Very passionate and interesting man to talk to with a wast knowledge on many subjects.

Raveneau at Onda Mezzanine, Winemakers dinner part I

Tasting notes in English, a few words about the food in Norwegian.

Jacquesson Cuvée no 736:
Pale lemon yellow, tiny bubbles. Apples, touch of lilies of the valley and chalk. Fresh acidity, elegant mousse, refined and elegant palate, needs a bit of time for me, good length. This is my note from last week. This bottle was a bit rounder and more open. 91

2002 Leitz Berg Schlossberg Riesling Trocken:
Pale golden. Floral, scented, lemons, apples and some minerals. Fresh acidity, elegant palate, refreshing and youthful, good length. 89

2009 Leitz Berg Kaisersteinfels Riesling Trocken:
(Magnum) Pale lemon yellow. Apples, some minerals, easy going nose. Fresh acidity, elegant palate, lovely balance, good length. 88

2005 Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux:
Pale lemon yellow. Apples, minerals, almost flinty, some yellow fruits, complex. Fresh acidity, ripe fruit, lemony and somewhat fatty minerals, long finish. 91

2008 Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux:
Pale lemon yellow. Apples, minerals, almost floral, touch of grapefruit. Almost flinty minerals with air. Fresh acidity, elegant if a bit full body, refreshing and long. 92

2009 Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux:
Pale lemon yellow. Apples, minerals, ripe, touch of yellow fruits. Layered. Fresh acidity, riper style for Raveneau, long. 91

Pale lemon yellow. Apples, minerals, touch of lemons. Fresh acidity, elegant and refreshing palate, layered, not that intense, towards flirting. With air very nuanced. Long. 93

2003 Raveneau Chablis Grand Cru Valmur:
Pale lemon yellow. Fresh nose, lime, apples, slight wax touch is the only indikator of the vintage on the nose. Fresh acidity, riper palate, somewhat "full", lacks a bit of nuances. Long creamy mineraly palate. 91

2006 Raveneau Chablis Grand Cru Valmur:
Pale lemon yellow. Fresh nose, apples, lime, oysters, layered and nuanced. Fresh acidity, lively lemony palate, refined, subdued and refreshing, very long. 93

Ruby. Fresh nose of ripe red berries. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, even a bit rounder and riper feel than the 08, but also a bit longer. 89

For me there seems to have been a change of style starting with the 09 vintage, and for the better. The 07's and 08's are a bit full, a bit ripe and even if lovely, lacks a bit of nuance. Normally I find the 09's a bit fleshier when tasted beside their 08 or 07 equivalent, here they are the most nuanced, somewhat firmer and focused. The daughter from de Montille now makes the white. The future looks even brighter.
