Bright ruby, tar, roses, anis, leather, some cherries, complex. High acidity, a wall of ripe tannins, huge structure, still refined, intense and a very long length. 90

76 Guiraud

1976 Château Guiraud;
A level fill, deep golden with amber hue. Elegant, quite closed, apricots, vanilla, complex and hard to detect it's secrets. Good acidity, sweetish, on the palate however it could have been more complex, good balance and a very long length.93

86 d'Yquem

1986 Château d'Yquem;
Deep golden, amber hue. Caramel, rubber and wellingtons. Good acidty, fresh acidity, caramel, apples, boring, a long finish, but without any distinct taste. Looking closer at the bottle (wine served blind) it seems it's had quite a leackage a few years back, so inproperly stored somehow, probably to warm. What a shame..... Still 85

90 Guiraud

1990 Château Guiraud;
Deep golden with amber hue. More alcohol, heavy, burnt and sweet, rubber. Slightly unballanced, acidity does not quite do the job, apricots and the lingering burnt sugar feel, very ripe apples and a good length.89

83 Guiraud

1983 Château Guiraud;
A level fill, deep golden, with amber hue. Honney, petroleum, apples and very ripe pears, apricots. Quite sweet mouthfeel, than acidity cleans up perfectly, candid sugar, caramel, great length, but lacks a bit of purity in my book. 89

66 Montrose in magnum

1966 Château Montrose;
(Magnum) A level fill, ruby with thin brick rim. First, slightly off, wondering if it was a bit corked. Later on, leather, black- and redcurrants, anis and prunes. Good acidity, ripe tannins, some metal touch, still felt a bit off, but to good to ignore...... The day after, much more complex and elegant on the nose, all signs of off aromas or cork gone, more leather, prunes, coffee, much more nuanced and rich. More complexity, but the structure started to tire and the tannins seemed a bit dry. Still very drinkable and a good wine. 84

01 Musar

2001 Chateau Musar;
(Magnum) Bright ruby, elegant cherry and redcurrants, with some leather and spices. A tiny touch volatile, just to make it more fun, elegant tannins, high and mouthwatering acidity, great balance and good complexity, very elegant and pure. Musar is always better in magnums! 90

90 Pichon Baron

1989 Château Pichon Longueville Baron;
Ruby, garnet rim. Sweet plums, elegant cassis, cedar, fine leather, some spices. Good fruit, elegant acidity and tannins, pure, great balance, very elegant texture, long finish. 90

Corked 89 Lynch Bages

1989 Château Lynch Bages;
Corked, and what a shame, this is normally a beauty!

1966 Pichon Comtesse

1966 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande;
A level fill, perfect cork, bright ruby, orange rim, cedar, touch of cigars, leather, blackcurrants and pencils. Fresh acidity, maturing tannins, fresh mouthfeel, complex, a bit lean body, lively, fresh cherries, great balance and a long length. 93

01 Château Sainte Anne

2001 Château Sainte Anne;
Bright ruby, chocolate and vegetal feel, lots of herbs. Ripe, not quite together it seems, ok finish. Today, bought by Château Latour and is now part of Les Forts..... I think they know what to do to enhance the quality. 78

96 Chalon Ségur

1996 Château Chalon Ségur;
Dark ruby, extremelly thin brick rim. Some coffee and herbs, complex, more heavy notes of smoked tea and floral highnotes with air over blackcurrants. Good acidity, very ripe tannins, almost gone! Very good, but a bit lean and a short length pulls down. 88

corked 82 Beychevelle

1982 Château Beychevelle;
Slightly corked......

85 Gloria

1985 Château Gloria;
A level fill, ruby with thin orange rim. Herbal, vegetal, more rustic nose, blackcurrant leafs. Good acidity, ripe tannins, elegant redcurrants and a touch of cherries and blackberries. More elegant palate than nose, very good length. 89

89 Las Cases

1989 Château Léoville Las Cases;
Bright ruby, elagant nose of leather, cassis, touch of floral notes, black- and blueberries. Good fruit, elegant tannins, very gentle textur, fruity body, fresh and lively, slightly lean body for 89, good length. Again I have had better bottles. 90

86 Léoville Barton

1986 Château Léoville Barton;
Ruby, ripe, leather, plums and a sweetish fruit touch, hint of anis. Complex, good acidity, ripe tannins, way more elegant on the palate than the nose, slightly more hollow mid palate than other bottles, very long length. I feel this is in a state now when it's very difficult to se where it's going and how mature it actually is. 89

1975 Bel Orme Tronquoy de Lalande

1975 Château Bel Orme Tronquoy de Lalande;
A level fill, pale, bright ruby, orange rim, lots of sediments. Redcurrants, stable, sour cherries, very old and mature aromas, still lively texture and feel and some fruit, elegant, good length, pure, fresh acidity, ripe tannins, great balance and beautifull long length. 92

1949 Montrose

1949 Château Montrose;
B/C level fill if I remember correctly, ruby with garnet rim and extreme sediments. Leather, cassis, cigars, tobacco, very fine and complex, very intense, even some coffee. Very pure, elegant, resh acidity, ripe tannins, gorgeous texture body alength. Just a tiny metallic touch far back in the aftertaste. 95

88 Cos

1988 Château Cos d'Estournel;
Bright ruby, cedar, violets, cigar touch, pure, complex and gorgeous nose. Very elegant, fresh acidity, ripe tannins, great balance, refreshing and youthfull expression. Why can't Cos make this style of wine any more, this is such an elegant beauty! 94

Rare 78 La Passion Haut-Brion

1978 Château La Passion Haut-Brion;
A level fill, lots of sediments, dark brownish, dull with orange rim. Coffee, nuts, minerals, leather and some dried fruits. Ok acidity, old, lots of hardwood, tannins ripe but dry, very tired. Again I believ faulty storage. This was my first La Passion, but it has no likeness with other 78's tried, and it should not have been this tired. 75 (Even so, very drinkable indeed)

66 Haut-Brion

1966 Château Haut-Brion;
B-B/C level fill, cork almost loose in the bottle, bright ruby with orange rim. Smokey minerals, leather, prunes, coffe and a almost smokey feel. Good acidity, ripe tannins, slightly hollow, a bit short. Not a top bottle (storage) but still manages to have it's charm. 82

96 La Mission

1996 Château La Mission Haut-Brion;
Bright ruby, leather, touch of plums, cassis, minerals and Earl Grey tea. Good acidity, ripe tannins, elegant, mouthwatering, a bit lean for La Mission, slightly raw terracotta minerality, and good length. Is it the vintage, or just a face of it's life? Not showing as well as it should. Even so. 89

98 Dom Chevalier

1998 Domaine de Chevalier;
Bright ruby, slightly herbal, blackcurrants, some minerals and leather. Good acidity, not to complex, elegant and balanced and good length. Lacks a bit of the charm of the vintage, and it's easy going, and I have a feeling this is not a fully proper bottle, I have had better ones many times. 86

82 Palmer

1982 Château Palmer;
Bright ruby, orange rim. Coffee, plums, anis, cedar, elegant, complex and some floral notes. GReat acidity, fresh and elegant texture, pure and somehow lively, ripe tannins, a bit short and hollow. One very good wine, even if not optimal bottle. 89

78 Château Margaux

1978 Château Margaux;
right ruby, orange rim. Gorgeous, mature nose, floral, perfed, touch of anis, pure plums, very elegant, finest leather like Church's shoes. A bit lean, ripe tins, good acidity, very elegant finish, more flavours lingering at the end. Not the best 78 Margaux bottle, but a good one. 92

86 Rauzan-Gassies, badly stored bottle

1986 Château Rauzan-Gassies;
A level fill, ruby, slightly brick rim and orange hue, very mature, anis, starting plums and coffee, dry leather. Drying structure, ok acidity, tannins getting dry, short length. I would say badly stored bottle...... 80

86 Rauzan-Segla

1986 Château Rauzan-Segla;
Bright ruby, garnet rim. Fantastic nose, elegant, pure floral notes, complex, red berries, touch of fresh plums, redcurrants, floral, some spices. Good acidity, clean, elegant, could have a bit more body for the vintage, but beautifull and elegant texture, ripe tannins like snow, very good length. 91

86 Dom Chevalier Blanc

1986 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc;
Pale lemon yellow, elegant maturing nose. Very complex, flinty minerals, lime and touch of tropical. Some herbal hint and smokey, wet charcoal. Very good acidity, lots of grapefruit, intense, very pure, some rosebush, incredible length. Drink or keep another ten years. 95

06 Plantiers HB

2006 Les Plantiers Haut-Brion;
(2nd Haut-Brion Blanc) Pale lemon yellow, lime, flint, smokey, complex nose, touch of tropical fruits. Elegant acidity, great balance, very lemon mineraly finish, very good length. 91

Rare Champagne

2004 Roses de Femme, Rosé de Saigne, Brut Champagne;
Pale pink, small bubbles. Fruity, touch of minerals and yeast. Not too complex, slightly on the sweet fruit side, ok acidity, could have more mousse, some bittertones in the finish, very good length. Only 400 bottles made a year. 86

Beautifull Kabinett

2009 Dr Pauly Bergweiler Riesling Kabinett;
Pale lemon yellow, apples, elegant minerals and a touch of red berries, lemon and hint of apricots. Very elegant and pure, fresh, long and great balance. This wine is made by grapes where 75% of the vines are from 1890 or older! 88

07 Erdener Prälat Auslese

2007 Peter Nicolay, Erdener Prälat Riesling Auslese;
Pale gold, very closed, some apples, botrytis, orange and pineapples. The balance is superb, very complex and later on intense, elegant and very long, fresh and lively. 93

97 Lay BA

1997 Peter Nicolay, Bernkasteler Lay Riesling BA;
Golden, some petroleum, elegant, sweet, and great balance. A bit closed on the nose, lemons, apples and minerals, orange marmalade and honney, long and lingering, great finish. 92

06 BA

2006 Dr. Pauly Bergweiler, Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling BA;
Golden, fresh, elegant, cinamon and apples, over minerals and citrus, canned pears, with a beautifull acidity and a great finish. Very well balanced and clean. 92

07 TBA

2007 Dr. Pauly Bergweiler, Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling TBA;
Golden, botrytis, apricots and minerals, pineapple, lemon, so complex, pure and extremely well balanced acidity that really cleans, playing with the residual sugar, a very long finish. Has all the fassetts riesling can play on. 95
