Pale straw yellow, closed for the moment, some apples, lime and minerals, touch of yellow fruits. Very well balanced, elegant acidity, lovely Kabinett, long finish. 89

Pale lemon yellow, lots of roses and sweet yellow fruits, pineaaple and honney. Nice texture and balance, acidity could be a touch fresher, but nice, a bit short. 86

2007 Ramonet Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cr Les Enseignieres;
Pale lemon yellow, some nuts, apples, minerals, vanilla, and a very nice floral note. Young and closed at the moment, fresh acidity, nice balance, refreshing, long length. 90

Ungrafted Champagne

(2006) Chartogne Taillet Les Barres Parcelle de Merfy Extra Brut;
Straw yellow, elegant bubbles. Very pure nose from this 100% Pinot Meunier on ungrafted vines. Average age is 60 years, non dosage wine. Very ripe gooseberries, touch of woody notes, like wet bark in the forest, very mineral, yellow apples, plaster and almost terracotta like minerality. Elegant mousse, perfectly balanced, elegant acidity, fresh and youthfull, not as sharp as most Extra Brut/ non dosage, creamy texture in the aftertaste, very long length. Only 1995 bottles made. 94

Classic 96 Ferriere

1996 Château Ferriere;
Ruby, elegant nose, some vanilla, floral, leather, blackcurrants, some paprika, quite classic and quite seductive nose. Fresh acidity and mouthfeel, leaner style of fruit, makes it more focused and layered, again this lovely floral feel to it, good length. Bottle came directly from the Château. 89

1986 Clos du Marquis;
A level fill, ruby with brick rim. Wood, teak, dust, green paprika, dry, sour, clearly ruined by storage.

05 Monthelie

2005 Pierre Morey Monthelie;
Ruby, strawberryish and earthy, rustic feel to it, vanilla and spices from wood. Lean body, good acidity, slightly rustic tannins and bretty finish. 80

06 Chambolle

2006 Felettig, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Carrières;
Bright ruby, strawberries, anis and vanilla. Fresh acidity, slightly green and herby in the mouth, tannins a bit rought, good length. 84

Pale lemon yellow, botrytis, sweet and tropcal on the nose, honney and candy. Good abalance, fresh acidity, a bit different style. 84

07 Kerpen WS Kabinett

2007 Heribert Kerpen, Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Kabinett;
Pale straw yellow, very closed now, hint of apples and tropical fruit. A bit sweet for a Kabinett (62g rs) so the acidity is working to keep things fresh, at this stage not that complex, hope there is something underneath, but quite long finish. 84

07 Ca'Marcanda

2007 Gaja Ca'Marcanda Magari;
Ruby, leather, cassis, blackberries, vanilla, beautifull fruit, again a bit hard on the oak. Nice acidity, ripe tannins, good balance, long finish, wait five to ten years. 88

08 Sito Moresco

2008 Gaja Sito Moresco;
Ruby, elegant fruit, plums, cherries, leather and vanilla. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, good balance, a bit much barrique showing now, good length. 87

07 Gaja Barbaresco

2007 Gaja Barbaresco;
Ruby, vanilla, truffles, roses, tar, plums, complex nose. High and fresh acidity, ripe tannins, intens and refined, very long finish, wait ten years. 91

Ruby, first closed and difficult, with some air and twenty minutes, starting to open quite elegantly, cassis, strawberries, a very refined minerality, nice leather, hint of tobacco. Fresh acidity, high of ripe tannins, texture maturing nicely, elegant balance, long length. 90

Ruby, coffee, black tea, cassis, vanilla, dark chocolate, leather, matched neatly with a tiny hint of herbs and meat. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, elegant and balanced, needs a bit of air to open, complex, long length. 88

Wow, unoxidized Coulee de Serrant

2005 Nicolas Joly, Clos de la Coulee de Serrant;
Pale golden, almonds, tulips, floral, honney, orange blossoms, nuts, marsipan, intens and beautifull. Fresh acidity, elegant texture, almost velvety, so balanced, even with the quite high alcohol of 15%, one barely notice it way back in the finish. I have probably tried two dozen bottles of this, and this one is so different from the others, all of them oxidized in one way or the other, this one is just elegant, smooth and joyfull, with very different aromas. Bananas, melons, honney, pear, if this is how it should be, what a cool wine, but this bottle is, as stated above, nothing like the others. Very long finish. Lacks the minerality I associate with this wine though. 92

1999 La Gravette de Certan;
(2nd Vieux Château Certan) Ruby, closed and raw first, needed fifteen minutes to open up, black and bleberries, touch of minerals, hint of violets, white chocolate anf leather. Good acidity and balance, elegant style, pure, ripe tannins, evolving nicely and less evolved than expected, I would wait another four years, long length. 88

Pale lemon yellow, closed, some minerals, apples and tropical notes, fres acidity, lively, nice balance, good length. 87

1992 Meursault

1992 Nicolas Potel, Meursault 1er Cru Sous Blagny Sélection;
A level fill, towards golden colour, oxidized apples, butter, nuts, smoke and bondfire. Acidity ok, but the wine really lacks freshness, feels more oxidized in the mourh than on the nose, flabby finish. 81

Last bottle of the recent house wine

1996 Sarget de Gruaud Larose;
Ruby with tiny garnet rim. Leather, bell peppers, blackcurrants, slightly perfumed, touch of vanilla and sweet tobacco. Fresh acidity, elegant texture, ripe tannins, maturing nicely, this last one was one of the top bottles, there has been some bottle variations, some very mature and pruney, others, like this one, could easily lay down for another five to ten years, altough, maybe not improving much. A nice, quite classic Claret. 88

Pale lemon yellow, some nutty notes, slimmer, more focused than the Chassagne, but more open and with a slightly fatter body at the moment, butter, fresh acidity, long finish. 87

Pale lemon yellow, pure, fresh, citrusy and minerals mixed with vanilla. Fresh acidity, figs, balanced, elegant, a bit closed at the moment, long finish. 87

Pale lemon yellow, some apple notes, minerals, closed on the nose. Very elegant texture and mouthfeel, fresh acidity, good balance and long finish. 87

(magnum) Pale straw yellow, tiny bubbles. Nice minerality, some oxidized apples, plaster, cement and a hint of rusty metal together with lime and orange. Elegant mousse, fresh acisity, towards fatty body actually, some paer and lemon in the long finish. 89

Bright ruby, brick rim. Earthy strawberries, leather, vanilla, and some beautifull and elegant floral overtones, fantastic nose. Fresh acidity, elegant texture, refreshing, starting to develop nicely, refreshing vanilla strawberry finish, you may want to wait for some more development, but starting to be a beauty now. Long length. 90

Bright ruby, needed a few minutes to open, now elegant blackcurrants, cigars, tobacco, some floral notes, even touch of pencil shaves. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, lovely texture, really mouthwatering and full of you at the moment, elegant body, refreshing finish. 89

1990 Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame;
(Magnum) Straw yellow, closed, some hints of minerals and lime, needs a lot of air to open, and the minerals and lime gets more intense, linear expression with airing, just more and more intense of the same things. Elegant mousse, fresh acidity, unripe apples, lime, warm lemons, minerals, slightly flinty, but steely finish, ok length. Needs time in the bottle still. 88

Golden, some botrytis, apples, citrus, exotic, lovely acidity, banaced elegantly with the sweetness, tender in a way, and so complex, needs time to develop, beautifull now even so. 94

What is better than tasting one of these rare wines one evening? Crack open a second bottle to compare vintages. Pale straw yellow, tiny bubbles. Charcoal, hint of bark again, very elegant nose even so, lots of minerals, more yeasty, brioch. More fruit on the palate and more body, elegant, very elegant mousse, so elegant that you hardly reflect on it, more closed than the 97, very long finish. 96

Straw yellow, tiny bubbles. Fresh moss, wood and bark, apples, pear, mineral, plaster, some chocolate and coffee hints. Gorgeous mousse, very elegant and different style, a bit fat body, pure and gorgeous aftertaste and length. 96

This is a mix of several vineyards. Pale golden, some botrytis, a bit closed, gorgeous acidity, but lack the racyness you expect, and a bit short..... 86 May become higher with storage.

(Deg 02 May 2006) Towards golden, tiny bubbles. Overmature and oxidized yellow apples, more minerals than the 76, stone and plaster, even salty, seaweed and beach. Realy fresh acidity, lovely freshness, nuts and coffee, tea and chocolate, core of apples and pear, long finish. 92

1976 Bollinger RD;
(Deg 06 June 2007) Dark straw yellow, towards golden, few bubbles. Tender on the fruit, not quite as oxidized style as some 76 RD's, but maybe slightly less fresh, more fruitdriven, relaxed minerality behind. Leaner body, nice acidity, elegant mousse, not that compleks, could have longer finish, a slight touch of Madeira Sercial in the finish. 88

Deep ruby, alcoholic and sweet overtones on the nose, ripe fruit, port like style, ok acidity, ripe tannins, not very elegant, ok finish. 80

Deep purple, almost opaque. Vanilla, dark berries and fruits, spices, touch of thyme, eukalyptus, mint. Good acidity, ripe tannins, fleshy, fruit driven, good length. 87

Second bottle, this was decanted and that really opened it up. Ruby, floral, elegant, red berries, blueberries, perfumed, some Mediterranian herbs. Feels very pure and elegant, with some sweet notes behind. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, beautifull texture, long, elegant, a beauty. 94

1969 Dom Perignon Oenothèque

(Deg 2006) Pale golden, a few bubbles. Lovely toast, some butter, nuts, apples, oysters, intense minerality, very complex. Fresh and lively acidity, fresh mousse as well, elegant and actually surprisngly lean body compared to teh fruit intensity, needed some air, lovely finish. Drink now. 93

1964 Dom Perignon

1964 Dom Perignon;
Golden with amber hue, some few bubbles. Some oxidation, slight of Madeira, some minerals, oxidized apples, yellow plums and prunes. Elegant, carefull mousse and fresh acidity, better on the palate, good fruit intensity, lovely finish. 90

1998 Krug Clos du Mesnil

1998 Krug, Clos du Mesnil;
Straw yellow, tiny bubbles. Very elegant nose, more tender than the Krug Vintage, apples, pear, melon, some oak, plaster, minerals, touch of menthol, very complex. Light and caressing, then almost exploding in all different kind of fascets, increadible balance, very consentrated, yet, so elegant and tender, very elegant mousse, lots of minerality, lemon and apples in the long finish. Amazing balance between power, finesse and elegance. 98
