Kloster Eberbach Winemakers dinner and tasting

Winemakers dinner at Cru in Oslo with some exceptional matches of wine and food, with two of the courses being amongst the best food and wine matches I've had. As Cru had no menue, I'm affraid my memory can't tell you the exact dishes unfortunatelly. Some of the wines were tasted the day after at a fine wine tasting.

Small Casa Ferreirinha tasting

2010 Casa Ferreirinha Esteva:

2010 Casa Ferreirinha Papa Figos:
Deep ruby. Scented, roses, blueberries and plums. Fresh enough acidity, ripe tannins, rounded, good length. 83

2008 Casa Ferreirinha Quinta da Leda:

1992 Casa Ferreirinha Reserva:

Off vintage Bordeaux tasting

1995 Château Fombrauge:
Ruby, garnet rim. Deep and plummy nose, coffee, muscat nuts, caramel, herbal and a bit dusty. Lacks acidity, feels cooked, tannins gone. Not an off vintage, but likely bad storage. Other tasters liked it more than me. 75

1993 Château Fourcas Hosten:
Ruby, brick rim. Slightly of rose petals, cassis and herbs. Lean but classic nose. Fresh acidity, ripe and few tannins, leanish body but surprisingly together. 82

1992 Château Cos Labory:
Ruby, almost brick rim. Lean nose, some herbs over blackcurrants leaf and slightly perfumed. Fresh acidity, lean body, clean and lean pretty much sums it up. Tannins gone. 78

1988 Château Lanessan:
Darker ruby, brick rim. Spicy plums, cassis but also metallic. Fresh acidity, slightly cooked fruit, tired. This isn't a off vintage, but debatable storage. 77

Blind flight of four.
1992 Château Pichon Longueville Baron:
Ruby, garnet rim. Dirt, plums, licorice, black tea. Intense. Thyme beneath. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, lean, somewhat fresher palate than nose, fine but very short. Nailed both producer and vintage. 86

1982 Château Grand- Corbin- Despagne:
Ruby, brick rim. Lots of sediments. Cassis, leather, figs, rose hips, almost perfumed and floral. Fresh acidity, tannins gone. Soft fruit, fairly elegant, not too complex and a bit short. Not an off vintage, but questionable storage put this one in. I was in Médoc.... 86

1984 Château Haut-Brion:
Bright ruby, garnet rim. Cassis, slightly perfumed, minerals, cigars, fresh, lively, lovely nose. Pine trees with more air (was decanted). Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, youngish feel, even if mature, a bit lean body, elegant nose. I was in Pessac right away, but at first on D d Chevalier, because of the pine touch. But it was too refined and elegant, and found vintage and producer with more air. 88

1984 Château Mouton Rothschild:
Ruby, garnet rim. Rich, almost opulent with vanilla, fine cassis, cigars, perfumed and floral notes. Almost feels closed. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, a bit hollow mid-palate. Fresh red apple peel, softer texture, and I was far off Mouton. With answer in hand, my by far youngest 84 Mouton. 89

92 DRC RSV

1992 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée-St-Vivant;
Ruby with garnet rim. Raspberries, light, lika a ballet dancer tiptoeing over the tongue. Fresh acidity, leaner, lacks something mid palate, then rushes in to quite a nice finish. 90

92 DRC Grands Échézeaux

1992 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Grands Échézeaux;
Bright ruby, watery rim. Floral, elegant and perfumed, roses, strawberries, a faint hint of spices and vanilla, refined and stunning nose. Towards high acidity, playful, lively, pure, fresh, long and very elegant. 93

1992 Domaine de Chevalier blanc

1992 Domaine de Chevalier blanc;
Straw yellow, citrus, some minerals, oysters, lemon, and toasty oak, even caramelized butter. Fairly high acidity but doesn't feel that way at first, lemony, slightly grassy and minerals on the palate, elegant body, even if it lacks a little something. In the cross road between a lean Meursault and a maturing Chablis. I would be far off Bordeaux on this one blind. It's way finer than it's rumours state, yes it's a bit lean, maybe even skinny, but what is here is quite fine, quite balanced, and quite long. 89

VKR dinner, the whites and sparkling's

A sudden invite to the Norwegian wine club 'Kåte Rhoner' made last Thursday evening an event instead of some boring TV watching. The food was very good, I'm so impressed at the level of cooking in many homes. But it seems to follow the level of the wine interest in many places. All wines served blind.

First wine was 1999 Piere Peters Blanc de Blanc Millésime; Pale golden, tiny bubbles, minerals, apples, autolysis, yeast. Fresh acidity, not too intense, starting to mature, would be way fresher and more refined with less dosage, this being almost sweetish at the finish. Dies to quickly in the glass. 85

2002 Bollinger Grande Anée;
Pale golden, tiny bubbles. Minerals, tighter, apples and pear peel. Fresh acidity, lively, nuts and butter starting to appear, refined and long. 92

1994 Château Couhins-Lurton;
Pale golden, nettles, lemons and some barrel notes. Fresh acidity, feels almost full bodied, creamy texture, slightly oxidized (by age), oak is always showing (very typical with answer in hand), good length. 88

1992 Viña Tondonia;
Pale golden, tropical, floral, touch of botrytis it seems? Lowish acidity, flabby and sweet feel. boring. 80

1988 Domaine de Chevalier blanc;
Pale golden, nuts and minerals, touch tropical and oxidized. Fresh acidity, short first, getting longer and more layered with air. After an hour oxidation started to let go, getting ever more complex and fresher, after three hours oxidation was gone, and the wine turned out to be beautiful. 92-93

1996 Robert Ampeau Meursault;
Bright lemon, SO2. smoke and barrels, unbalanced, ungainly, not at all balanced, awful wine. 63

The bottle variation from this estate is greater than the difference between man and tuna. You never know what you get, but you always know it's dissapointing.

40 years of Dom Perignon, hmmmm.....

Heini le Chef making lobster risotto with broth of lobster shells, fantastissimo!

1992 Dom Perignon;
Pale golden, flinty minerals, bod fire, deep flavours. Fresh acidity, good mousse, quite long but not exciting. 89

Norwegian lobster, ready for the risotto. For those readers who haven't tried Norwegian lobster, it's the best lobsters out there!

1983 Dom Perignon;
Corked!

Even the risotto is made with Dom Perignon.....

1980 Dom Perignon;
Golden, camphor, King of Denmark drops, touch of sweet fruits. good acidity, long if lean. 89 for those who like the style....

Finished risotto, excellent! And matching the plate nicely as well!

1978 Dom Perignon;
Golden, tiny bubbles. Fresh feel and minerals, lively, towards high acidity, playfull, layered and transparent, very long if not as complex and refined as Cristal. 94

Some older Napa.

1992 Ridge Montebello;
Ruby with ruby rim, mature nose, dried fruits, chocolate, forest floor, leaves hint og liquorice, needed some minutes to open. Lean body, a little surpricing, but intens fruit, nice acidity and ripe tannins. Beautifull and elegant, great finish. Drink in the next 5 years. 89

1993 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Cask 23;
Ruby with ruby rim, needs air, decanted for 30 minuts when it started opening. Some coffe, mocca, blackcurrants, leather, hints of cigars, starting secondary aromas. Fantastic fresh acidity and fruit, great balance, mature, ripe tannins, some stone fruits and cherry stones. Surprisingly youthfull, very elegant wine, great length. 95

1997 Dalla Valle Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon;
Ruby with ruby rim, youthfull still, coffe, liquorice, cassis, sweet chocolate. Great fruit intensity and balance, delicious acidity and ripe tannins. Needs another 10 years if you are lucky enough, long elegant finish.94

1999 Dr.Loosen Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Beerenauslese;

1995 S.A Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Fass #7;

1995 S.A Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Fass #15;
Flott finish.

1997 Dr Tanisch (Thanisch Erben) Berncasteler Doctor Riesling Auslese;

1992 Dr Tanisch Berncasteler Doctor Riesling Spätlese;
