02, 96 and 90 Cristal and 02 Cristal Rosé
All Champagne's directly from Roederer.
2002 Roederer Cristal:
Pale lemon yellow, tiny bubbles, unlike the first time I tasted this at it's launch, now it leaps out of the glass. Apples, minerals, yeats note, creamy, elegant and nuanced nose. Layered and complex. Fresh acidity, elegant mousse, intense yet subtle, refined, even a bit upfront, I think the most intense bottle I've had of this, gorgeous. Very long and very nuanced. 96
1996 Roederer Cristal:
Very pale golden, tiny bubbles. Apples, minerals, focus, touch of yeast and fruity nose. Ever so slight nut touch behind, maturing. Yeast and freshly baked bread. Fresh acidity, high but balanced mousse, fresh and tight, lively, nuanced, crisp, intense mineral and almost smoky, oysters and lemons, layered, very long indeed. 95
1990 Roederer Cristal:
Pale golden, tiny bubbles. Apples, pears, more packed in minerals and yeasty notes, sort of rounder nose. Nuanced and focused. Fresh acidity, elegant mousse, fruity, intense, rounder palate as well, fresh and balanced. Very long. The guy sitting next to me makes sounds as if he were doing something other than drinking wine. Gorgeous wine. 95
2002 Roederer Cristal Rosé:
(Almost five percent of the entire production of this wine in this vintage was drunk at this event in New York!) Very pale salmon, tiny bubbles. Cool minerality, just a touch of red berries over apples, incredibly nuanced and subdued. Fresh acidity, elegant mousse, refreshing, nuanced, delicate, perfectly balanced, superb, absolutelly stunning, to drink this wine is an event in itself. It could just have been a bit longer for perfection. 96

2004 Roederer Cristal:

2006 Château La Conseillante:
Deep ruby. Blueberries, some vanilla, seductive even if pure youth. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, mouthwatering, very fresh and still almost caressing, superb fruit, long. 95
2006 Château Langoa Barton:
Deep ruby. Needed a lot of air to open. Cassis, leather, vanilla and scented. Feels layered. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, elegant palate but not quite there yet. 06 needs cellar time. 90

Deep ruby, garnet rim. Somewhat floral over some prunes, cassis, minerals, vanilla and almost smoky notes. Scented with air. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, elegant palate, mouthwatering and surprisingly fresh for 2003. Structure is calming down and finding itself, this is turning out lovely with enough air. Very long finish. 95
2006 Château d'Yquem:
Pale golden. Rich and intense nose. Apricots and pineapples, vanilla. Very pure nose. Fresh acidity, almost creamy texture, lemon mousse, very long. Pure. 94

40 years of Dom Perignon, and now for something completely different, some Champagne for you Sir?
Some feels that 25 or so vintages of Dom Perignon is hardly a start of any great evening, so there is about time to bring something else to the table...
1964 Veuve Clicquot Vintage Rosé;
Amber, lots of sediments. Redcurrant's, nuts, minerals, deep nose. Crisp acidity, raspberry feel, elegant mousse, a touch of VA, just to make it even more exciting. Refreshing, really playful, lovely, flirting, seductive, delicate, vinous and delicious, strawberries with balsamico. 96
1961 Roederer Vintage Rosé;
Pale amber, golden hue, tiny bubbles. Minerals, unripe strawberries. Tight, increadibly pure, youthful, elegant with superb acidity and balance. More flavours on the palate, raspberries, minerals, extremely long. 97
1970 Roederer Cristal;
Why not taste one of these? Golden, tiny bubbles, so complex and layered, the empty DP bottles crunches themselves in shame. Minerals, popcorn, butter, high acidity, refined, such complexity, nuanced, enormous focus, almost tight and brutal compared to the DP, enormous length. 98
1964 Roederer Cristal;
Pale amber, tiny bubbles. Complex, refined fruit, minerals, touch of flint. Superb elegance, layered, nuanced, gorgeous, way better than the bottle earlier in the evening! But this one had not been open for nine days either (that was always hard according to Rake). Gorgeous acidity, again this playfulness, magnificent, seductive finish. 98
I think I need some pizza wine by now.....

40 years of Dom Perignon, meet the aperitifs!
Every vintage of Dom Perignon for 40 years, 1962-2002. And later on, two more bottles of Cristal (we had 30 years of Cristal a few weeks back) to make 40 years of Cristal as well (if not every vintage). This means there is actually only 7 or so vintages of Dom Perignon, not tasted at this event.
As some felt there might be a little to few wines to try, we were given a mix of different aperitifs.
1975 Dom Perignon;
Let's try bottle variations, this will come later on as well! Golden, no bubbles, butter, minerals, nuts, oxidized apples, elegant texture, mousse almost gone, good acidity, a bit lean and slightly dry, OK length, not optimal bottle. 89
2006 Comte Lafon Montrachet;
Opened nine days! Still minerals, lime, apples, quite refreshing, feels like decanted for a few hours only. Fresh acidity, lively and playful, stunning length.... Must have been amazing to follow during those days. 96
1999 Bollinger Vielle Vignes Francaises;
Pale golden, toasted bread, yeast, minerals, doesn't give too much on the nose. Elegant mousse, refined acidity, vinous, beautiful balance, subtle, subdued, gorgeous length. 95
1964 Roederer Cristal
Another nine days bottle, golden, still a fine Champagne, but oxidized (after beeing opened for such a length) and good enough still, and a long length. 88
2002 Marie-Noelle Ledru Ambonnay Grand Cru;

1974 Cristal
1974 Roederer Cristal;
Golden, few but tiny bubbles. Minerals on nose, didn't find much more, fresh acidity, lively feel, lacks some fruit in this company, still the elegance of Cristal, good length. 88
If you think less of Roederer's Cristal because of some musicians of odd taste in clothing and texts, think again. This was a big eyeopener, these are Champagne's of impeccable elegance and refinement, and truly deserving it's legendary status. Rarely have one vitnessed a style so similar over 30 years, maybe they are a bit more rounded from 85 and older, if that has to do with the older age and maybe a higer dosage back then, I can't tell, but I could enjoy all the fifteen vintages, one glass of each without getting GORD that, for me at least, can occur with several high acidity wines in one evening. (Riesling or Champagne normally).
Cristal is a wine of true elegance, refinement, layers, complexity and impeccable length, and one of the top Prestige Cuvée's in the industry. I look forward to my next bottle.....
A huge thanks to Frank Herfjord and Gard Kverneland, (and others that have helped) to make this evening a possibility, and for letting me join. A splendid evening.

1975 Roederer Cristal;
Golden, tiny bubbles. Minerals, apples, harder and tougher style than 76, amazing acidity, even if a bit on the outside, and not fully integrated in the taste curve, youthful expression for it's age, lively, long if slightly hollow finish, I actually find it still needs ageing. Think Picasso Cubist style in a Champagne. 95

76 Cristal
1976 Roederer Cristal;
Golden, paler hue than 78. Rich, minerals, citrus. smokey and tobacco leaves, elegant texture, absolutely gone for one second, talk about non excisting mid palate, but everything is forgiven with such an aftertaste, beautiful, if never as fresh as the 78 or 79, long finish. 95

78 Cristal
1978 Roederer Cristal;
Golden, few bubbles. Mature nose, coffee and minerals, hardly any of those typical oxidative apply notes that are in so many of the aged Champagne's. Elegant mousse, beautiful acidity, citrus, lemon, orange peel, lively and very long, must be a perfect bottle and a surprice for me. 96-97
