Pale lemon yellow. Smoky minerals, yellow fruits, grapefruit and orange blossoms. Fresh acidity but feels a bit lazy, rounded body, smoky minerals with air on the palate as well. Long. 91

Ruby with brick rim. Licorice, some figs and dust. Not the best I've tried of this one, but all are plast it's prime. 84

1990 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande:

(Served blind) Bright ruby, garnet rim. Elegant nose, pure red fruits, delicate, scented, ripe cassis and ripe redcurrants. Nuanced nose. Fresh acidity, ripe and now fewet tannins, lovely balance, elegant and again delicate palate. Very long. I was on 95 Comtesse and with answer in hand, more elegant and rounded than last bottle. 93

1967 Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

1967 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande:
Ruby with broad garnet rim and a thin brick outher rim. A nose that would turn Piemonte hipsters into Claret lovers. Ever so slightly volatile with perfumed notes and cherry stones, licorice and some floral highnotes. Rose hips rather than roses. High and thin acidity, tannins more or less gone, refreshing and fairly lean body, touch of coffee and again cherries. Transparent and the acidity vibrates throughout the taste curve. Acidity tend to keep on even after the flavours have stopped, very similar to older Nebbiolo. Ads a bit of weight with air. This one blind and I would not have been in Bordeaux at all. 87

Tasting with Andreas Larsson MS, 95 Pichon Comtesse Magnum

Master Sommelier Andreas Larsson visited Oslo and the Norwegian Sommelier Association for a tasting on legendary Bordeaux against legendary California wines. I say California since Ridge Montebello was amongst the Napa Valley wines. First wine out was:

1995 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande:
(Magnum, decanted about three hours) Nright ruby, garnet rim. Fruit-driven, elegant and seductive. Leather, anise, cassis, some cherries and white chocolate. Simply gorgeous nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, mouthwatering palate, savory, gorgeous balance, layered, flirting and long. 94

89 Pichon Lalande

1989 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande:
Ruby. Stunning nose, leather, cassis, perfumed, elegant and still quite rich. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, lovely texture. Fresh feel to it, mouthwatering, very long. 94

90 Pichon Lalande

1990 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande;
Ruby. Burnt feel, almost rubbery, like after a dragrace. Seems to have some sort of a bottle/storage failure. Palate somewhat fresher than nose. I've had better bottles.

85 Pichon Comtesse

1985 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande:
Bottom neck fill, ruby, garnet rim. Blackcurrant's leaf, bell peppers, barnyard touch, anise. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, leaner style, elegant if somewhat edgy. Fresher with air. 90

86 Pichon Comtesse

1986 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande:
Bottom neck fill. Ruby, garnet rim, tight and more closed than several bottles lately. Cassis, bell peppers, licorice. Towards high acidity, high level of ripe tannins, intense, young and rough. This bottle would have needed another fifteen years. 92

86 Pichon Lalande

1986 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande;
Ruby, garnet rim. Fresh nose, green paprika, cassis, furnish polish, herbs, nettles, awkward bottle. Somewhat lean palate, ripe tannins, absolutely not an optimal bottle. Faulty storage?
