97 Salon, 04 Domaine Leroy, Vega-Sicilia and more

2004 Domaine Leroy Gevrey-Chambertin:
Unclear light ruby with brick rim. Intense nose, leaps out of the caraffe, red berries, strawberries, raspberries, nuanced, detailed, stunning nose, scented. Gorgeous nose. Fresh acidity, elegant tannins, fresh, detailed, nuanced, fresh, fruity, red berries, bit tight and both tighter and younger than last bottle, bit bitter finish. Long. 93 ****

1975 Bertani Amarone della Valpolicella
Served blind. Ruby with garnet rim, lots of legs. Sweet dades on the nose, alcohol, some chocolate. Freshish acidity, ripe tannins, sweet and alcoholic, one dimentional, Sweet finish. 86 ***

2009 Lequin-Colin Corton-Charlemagne BTTR;
Pale lemon yellow. Sweet yellow fruits, candellight scents. Flat acidity, leN and unbalanced, easygoing. 84 **

Vega-Sicilia Unico Riserva Especial:
Served blind. From 91, 94 and 99 vintage. Deep ruby with tiny garnet rim. First very sweet an I was in Rhône. Then anise, blueberries, vanilla, liquorice, floral notes, still heavy and intense and pure youth. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, rich, intense, but lively, nuanced and layers. Long finish, very long. I ended up on 1995 Vega-Sicilia Unico. 94 ****

1963 Barbeito Malvazia:
Deep amber with yellow rim. Caramel, burnt sugar, apricots and dried fruits nose. Fresh acidity, leanish for Malvazia, bit bitter and burnt, could be more balanced. 90 ***

1997 Salon:
Pale lemon yellow, tiny bubbles. Apples, nuanced, minerals, delicate and nuanced nose. Fresh acidity, lively, elegant mousse, intense even if a bit sharp and lean, veryr efreshing, ads some body with air, delicately balanced, long. 94 ****

1963 Ferreira Vintage Port

1963 Ferreira Vintage Port;
Deep garnet, garnet rim. Sediments. Red berries, anise, leather, hint of spices. Fuller body than Fonseca's, fresh acidity, lively, elegant, long, younger feel to it as well, but not as complex, nuanced and layered. This was a slightly above average bottle. 93

1963 Fonseca's Vintage Port

LW opening the 63

1963 Fonseca's Vintage Port;
Garnet, brick rim. Astonishing nose, so layered and nuanced, complex, floral, all sorts of berries and cakes, like entering a patisserie, a spice shop, and a regular bakery at once. Superb! Fairly sweet attack, superb acidity, coffee, mocca, dark chocolate, very long indeed, my second bottle, very similar from the last, this one slightly more nuanced. 96

1963 Domaine de Chevalier blanc

1963 Domaine de Chevalier blanc;
Mid shoulder fill. Golden colour, with greenish hue, minerals, something petroleum-like, faint hint of apricots. Quite high acidity, not that much fruit left on the palate, but some lime cling on to minerals for their bare life, quite lemony finish. Lean.83

Corked old Port

1963 Ferreira Vintage Port;
Gorgeous garnet, unfortunatelly slightly corked bottle....drinkable but not up to it's normal standard.

1963 Vintage Port

1963 Ferreira Vintage;
Bright garnet, red berries, touch volatile, anis, raisins, alcohol shows too well. Good acidity, balance (except alcohol) lean body, refreshing, not the best bottle of this Port. 88

Old beauty

1963 Ferreira Vintage Port;
Brigth ruby with thin brick rim, lots of sediments. Intence, sweet berries, spices, fills the room, slightly volatile, cherries, liquorice, mocca and some hazelnut. Soft attack, rounded first, then leaner and fresher, the acidity cleans exceptionally well, blackberries, cinamon, stone fruits, very long finish. 95

Trondheim tasting (blind) part 4

1989 Chateau d'Arlay, Cotes du Jura;
Golden yellow, oxidized, like sherry but for my palate more elegant, fruit fresher also, minerals, nuts, hazelnuts and flor. Good acidity, complex, fresh for the style, good balance, exceptional finish, but it is not for me. Still 89. (Chateau Chalon?, no, it's too lean isn't it, Jura? Chateau d'Arlay? Nailed it)

1983 Graham's Vintage Port;
Ruby, brick rim, some sediments. Floral, dark red fruits, elegant, some roses. Fresh acidity, a bit on the lean side, good, could be better. 85 (Must be Port, has sediments but seems lean for a vintage, also too dark for a vintage tawny. Hmmm.)

1963 Ferreira Vintage Port;
Bright ruby, brick-orange rim, lots of sediments. Fruity, prunes, figs, darker berries, such elegance and complexity. Transparent and layered, very fresh acidity, getting a bit drunk now, but it's so seductive. Fantastic finish. The third time I enjoy this beauty, the second best bottle. 96

Two beauties from the sixties at the Private Diploma tasting

1966 Leroy Grands Echezeaux;
Pale garnet, light orange rim. Plums, some prunes, figs, strawberries and strawberry jam, hints of spices and some more minerals. Complex, very elegant, great balance, fresh acidity, tannins gone, and finishes of with a unbelieveable long finish. Fantastic bottle. 97 (Thanks to Arne)

1963 Fonseca Vintage Port;
Bright brick, thin orange rim, extremelly complex, some dark fruits, prunes and figs, leather, coffee, hints of chocolate, fantastic balance, intence yet elegant, very long finish, a beauty of a Port. Fantastic now, I would not keep it. 96 (Thanks to Michael)
