Comte Georges de Vogüé at Bagatelle
Tasting notes in English and a few comments about the food in Norwegian.
for å overdøve.
Fantastisk.
Towards lemon yellow. Intense nose, lemons, apples, minerals,
slightly floral and yellow fruits. Touch of butter. Flinty with more air
in the glass. Fresh acidity, leaner palate, pure Madagascar vanilla, smoky, quite
focused, but could have a bit more mid-palate. Long and intense finish.
Ever so slight touch of honey and beeswax, that just rounds it off a
bit. 94
Bright ruby. Red berries, slight herbal note far behind,
slightly scented nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, youthful and fruity,
but a bit lean and tight, good length, quite nuanced. 89
1993 Comte Georges de Vogüé Chambolle-Musigny:
Ruby, still garnet rim. Scented, red berries, touch of sous
bois, hint of leather, elegant and nuanced nose, superbly charming.
Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, slightly edgy palate still, feels far
younger, blind I would be ten years or so younger. Slight iodine note
with more air. Long. But the secret is that the young vines of Musigny,
the ones younger than 25 years, was blended into this wine. This
practice ended in 1995. 92
2011 Comte Georges de Vogüé Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru:
Bright ruby. Scented, floral, red berries, almost violets
nose, again pure Madagascar vanilla. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, tight,
quite intense, focused, nuanced, long. 92
2002 Comte Georges de Vogüé Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru:
Bright ruby, thin garnet rim. Scented, fruity, nuanced, a more
subdued violets note, beautiful nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins,
tight, bit gripping before it opens into an almost velvety aftertaste,
long. 93
1997 Comte Georges de Vogüé Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses:
Ruby, garnet rim. Scented, red berries, minerals, nuanced and
elegant nose, layered, pure, complex and refined. Floral and an almost
Mouton Rothschild like exoticness. Fresh acidity, ripe
tannins, slightly drying texture mid palate, ever so slightly oaky
still, surprisingly youthful fruit, can be kept to polish it off a bit
more. Long. 94
Villand med traktkantarell, smakfult kjøtt, elegant saus med
lekker sopp.
Bright ruby. Red berries, scented, pure and quite intense nose,
slight plummy note. Floral with more time in the glass, getting the
floral note quicker than the '95 a month ago. Fresh acidity, ripe
tannins, red berries, that for me seemingly typical slightly unripe
strawberries tightness and coolness of flavour, refreshing, long finish.
94
2001 Comte Georges de Vogüé Bonnes Mares:
Ruby, thin garnet rim. Fruity, scented, ripe plums, overripe
strawberries, holds on to the floral notes much tighter than the '11,
doesn't quite want to let go. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, elegant
fruit, refreshing, again a bit tight, almost playful. Ever so slightly
edgy still, needs five to ten years, long. 94
Aldeles nydelig reinsdyr, men tilbehøret her ble for kraftig for
meg.
Ruby. Red berries, scented, some vanilla, ever so slightly
herbal, nuanced, floral, violets, layered. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins,
bit tight and closed even after a few hours in decanter, delicate,
nuanced, transparent, elegant, long finish. 95
1991 Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Cuvée Vielles Vignes:
(Magnum) 16 hl/Ha. Ruby, thin garnet rim. Floral, scented,
layered, nuanced and evolving nose. Ever so slight sous bois touch, red
berries. Spicy. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, intense,
refreshing, redcurrants and strawberries, long finish. 94

86 Climens, 98 Suduiraut, 98 Hermitage, 06 Clos de la Roche and more
Bright ruby, garnet rim, soaked cork. Fruity, scented, red
berries, slightly heavier, touch of prunes on the nose. Fresh acidity,
ripe tannins, vanilla and oaky, lacks a bit of fruit, dries a bit, good
length. Probably stored a bit warm. 88
1997 Château Pavie Macquin:
Ruby, thin garnet rim. Scented, fruity, slightly rich, some
herbal notes, floral. Coffee. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, sweetish,
fruity, lacks a bit of refinement, not quite together, good length. 88

nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, quite elegant, lovely fruit,
some rosemary notes, long finish. 92
1998 Chapoutier Hermitage La Sizeranne:
Ruby. Pepper, spicy, blackberries, scented and red berries nose.
Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, lacks a bit of complexity, but
lovely balance and quite elegant fruit, long. 92
1996 Joh.Jos.Christoffel Erben Erdener Trepchen Riesling Auslese**:
Pale golden. Apples, scented, fruity, slight tropical notes on
the nose. Fresh acidity, fruity, lively, elegant and quite refreshing,
falls a bit apartmin the finish. 89
2004 Willi Schaefer Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese:
Second oxidized bottle.
2004 Daniel Vollenweider Wolfer Goldgrube Riesling Auslese:
Towards lemon yellow. Apples, minerals, fruity, scented,

fruity, sweet and quite refined, elegant and long. 94

83 and 85 Laville Haut-Brion and stunning 82 Calon-Ségur
1985 Château Laville Haut-Brion:
Towards lemon yellow. Started out very smoky and grapefruity on stilts. Needed air to open and it's surprisingly youthful. With air the minerals came together, lovely nuance, superb citrus, tiny touch of apricots and vanilla. Layered nose. Fresh acidity, lively, very nuanced, the smoky minerals are more persistent. Almost as young as the 07 tasted a few months back. Extremelly long and nuanced. Another perfect bottle. Floral after an hour, so complex, nuanced and layered. A rare beaty. 98
1983 Château Laville Haut- Brion:
Pale golden. Beeswax, tropical, fatter than it's youngest brother, lychee, grapefruit, almost floral, sweet lilies. Fresh acidity, somewhat fuller body, camphor touch, rounded body and texture, intense and layered, two very different expressions, incredibly long. After 45 minutes, getting even more focused, my best bottle yet. 97
1982 Château Calon-Sègur:
Fill barely half a centimeter below cork. A bit shut and plummy, but after ten minutes in decanter, fragrance extravagance. This bottle makes Armand Rousseau's Chambertin looking like a shy schoolgirl. Every red and dark berry there is in abundance, so floral and extrovert, leaps out of the glass, you smell it from half a meter away. Fresh acidity, tannins soft and velvety. Astonishing refinement and a huge surprice. But then again, my experience with Calon is quite limited. It could have been longer considering the nose and palate, but what a wine. Clear as a cold winters day. Pure as few. After three hours, cedar, pencil shaves and something I have found in Calon before, a slightly salty minerality. 95+
1997 Dr.Pauly Bergweiler Bernkasteler Lay Riesling Beerenauslese:
Golden. Floral, apricots, minerals, apples, slightly spicy. Fresh acidity, fairly lively and very elegant. Could be more nuanced but refreshing. Quite pure. Very apply and lemons and mineraly finish. 92

Day one at the Baron of Brøttum tasting, 1967 Suduiraut stole the show
1990 Château Clinet:
Bright ruby, redcurrants rim. Closed first, but fairly quickly gorgeously scented nose, layered and complex, flirting plums and blueberries. After an hour, some cedar and a touch of tobacco. Licorice and some vanilla, transparent feel. fresh acidity, ripe tannins, still young and slightly biting finish. Lovely and pure fruit, long. 95
2007 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clavoillon:
Towards lemon yellow. Floral, somewhat scented, butter, some minerals, a bit fatt style for Clavoillon and somewhat fatter than last bottle. After an hour, less fat. Still gorgeous acidity, superb balance, creamy texture, refined and long. 93
1999 Domaine d'Auveany Puligny-Montrachet En La Richarde:
1224 bottles made. Pale golden. Nuts, some butter, Meursault like minerals, citrus and apples. Tighter palate, way tighter palate, fresh acidity, nose is fat and almost rich, palate is focused and almost narrow. Minerals and sublime balance, refined and together, nuanced and stunning length. 94
2009 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles:
Pale lemon yellow. Some floral notes, elegant citrus, minerals and apples. Nuanced and layered. Fresh acidity, elegant and somewhat rich Pucelles, creamy and slightly fat, rounded. long. 92
2002 Dunn Howell Mountain:
Deep ruby, ruby rim. Somewhat scented, rich and fruity, cassis and touch of plums. On the ripe side. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, refreshing and lively, a bit warm alcohol, excellent body and balance, long. 92
1950 Château L'Evangile:
Schröder & Schyler bottling. Top shoulder fill. Cork was easilly pushed into the bottle. Ruby with garnet rim. Plums, figs and dust. Fresh acidity, tannins gone, lean and tired, to warm storage. Bruun Rasmussen so called excellent condition wine. In my world this is beyond faulty. Warm storage. This auction house needs a course.
1962 Château Cheval Blanc:
Danish bottling. Corked.
1964 Vega Sicilia Unico:
Medium shoulder fill. Ruby, garnet rim. A very far cry from my last excellent bottle, this one from Fine & Rare was dusty and hollow. What a dissapointment. Not close to fine and rarelly bad.
1986 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou:
Ruby, thin garnet rim. Scented, touch of tobacco, cassis and a touch of floral notes. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, elegant fruit, slightly less fruity than last bottle, lacks a bit of complexity. Good length. 88
1988 Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste:
Ruby with garnet rim. Cassis, licorice, touch of plums and dark berries. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, refreshing, a bit lean finish, refreshing. Not that complex. 88
1986 Château Cheval Blanc:
Ruby, thin garnet rim. Exotic, some prunes and floral, lovely nose if not that intense. Cassis and plums, leathery eleganse. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fairly focused but also a bit lean for Cheval, refreshing, elegant but lacks a bit body, especially for CB. Somewhat leaner than last bottle. 93+
1997 Château Haut-Brion Blanc:
Towards golden. Smokey minerals, citrus, focused and a bit intense, even if a bit lean. Grapefruit and honey, touch of wax. Fresh acidity, elegant body, refreshing and lovely, elegant citrus mineraly finish. Long. 94
2008 Blain -Gagnard Bâtard-Montrachet:
Pale golden. Apples, minerals, ever so slightly smoky, butter and some vanilla. Somewhat more open bottle than the one last week. Layered and nuanced, almost floral, elegant and balanced, lovely and even if long, could have been longer. It is a Bâtard remember. 93
1967 Château Suduiraut:
Top shoulder fill. Golden with greenish tint. Apricots, caramel, raisins, touch of vanilla, apples, minerals, goes on and on. Fresh acidity, lively, elegant as few, not as caramelly as 1967 Yquem, refined and complex, exceptional length, refined and subdued, paradise in a glass. 98

Late Château release bottle. I think its starting to come around. Will last thirty+ more years. 94

BU9215905 (789,90) (magnum) Bright ruby, garnet rim. Slightly herbal, elegant and fruity, somewhat perfumed, an elegant and tender Armailhac. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, leanish and more classical. This is for those who love classic Pauillac where nuances is more important than power. 89

1997 Ridge Monte Bello
Long time without any postings now, but some very fine wines have been tasted in the mean time even so. Tonight, this one:
1997 Ridge Santa Cruz Mountains Monte Bello:
Deep ruby, ruby rim. Seductive nose of blackberries, cassis, violets, sweet morellos plums, and something very refined like a faint hint of some John Lobb's and the finest cigars. Almost sweet plums on the attack, quickly absorbed by a playful acidity that brings the flavors all around the mouth in such a magnificent manner, it's difficult not to fall in love. Yes, there are more intense and powerful Montebello's out there, but this bottle is just so up front and giving (after about 30 minutes of decanting). After an hour, pretty much the same. Very together and balanced, long and fruity finish, superb. 95
The label states as follows: 97 Monte Bello Vineyard, bottled May 99. This most unusual year began with torrential winter rains followed by a long, mild spring. Flowering was early, the amount of fruit formed was unusually large. We dropped nearly twenty percent of the crop, bringing yields down to two tonnes per acre- and assuring intensity. This was the earliest vintage since 1962. All thirty-three parcels were fermented separately, on their natural yeast; in a return to methods employed in the sixties and seventies, part of the malolactic took place in barrel. The wine was aged for eighteen months, almost entirely in new, air-dried american oak. Ripe and well-structured, this Monte Bello is among the finest of a great decade. It is aproachable as a young wine and will develop fully over the next fifteen years. (I recon PD stands for Paul Draper?) PD 3/99
He was so right. Now thirteen years on, this lively wine still has a way to go. But right now, it's in that magnificent cross between youth and age.
