1966 Rauzan-Segla from Scandinavian Airlines

Curious looking bottle, square like some spirits bottle, maybe to hold more bottles in a smaller carton for the airline? This Scandinavian Airlines Reserve bottle was château bottled and had gone through Eschenauer negociant.

Fill was mid shoulder, colour looking good.
1966 Château Rauzan-Segla;
Pale ruby, garnet rim with thin orange outer line. Very mature nose, too mature I would say, dust, leather, dry leaf, forest floor, just a tiny hint of raisins far, far back. Fresh acdity, tannins still there, making it somewhat austere in it's light body, OK length. 78

I have never tasted any particularly nice bottles from this estate with some age (say older than 1980) and I have a feeling they are not the longest lasting....

Strange bottle.... Those were the days when you could get a second growth on Scandinavian Airlines, or just SAS as we call them....

  1. Strange misprint on the label (Rausan instead of Rauzan)?

  2. Château Rauzan-Ségla, or Château Rausan-Ségla, is a winery in the Margaux appellation of the Bordeaux region of France. Château Rauzan-Ségla is also the name of the red wine produced by this property. The wine produced here was classified as one of fifteen Deuxièmes Crus (Second Growths) in the original Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855. The alternate name "Rausan-Ségla" was also frequently used until 1994 when the original "Rauzan-Ségla" again became the official name.[1]

    From Wikipedia, I did not know it was up until 94, but have seen both on older vintages.
