Commanderie de Bontemps, Fête de la Fleur

Better late than never. This exceptional dinner was held back in June at Château Lascombes.

First out was the magnificent 2006 Château Haut-Brion Blanc from Magnum (served to 1500 people!) Probably the only time in history that so many have enjoyed this magnificent wine at once. Very pale golden, intense, layered, minerals, smoke and citrus with a touch of tropical behind. Fresh acidity, superb texture and balance, reserved first, needed time to fully open in the glass, and later on an absolutely stunning length, minutes. This wine got better, longer and more complex for every sip. 100

Then came 2005 Château Lascombes; (Impérial) Ruby, intense fruit, floral high notes, young and seductive. It had been decanted for about three hours helping to open it up and making it more layered and elegant. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, velvety texture, balanced, very long. 93-94

The pictures doesn't quite match the story, the next was 2000 Château Léoville Poyferré;
Ruby with garnet rim, perfumed, very seductive, impressive, intense and layered, jasmins, stunning nose. Fresh, lively, maturing elegantly, ripe tannins, soft texture, long. 95

Then came the 2008 Château d'Yquem in its pale golden, apricots, pineapples, layered, inviting and complex. Not the fattest of Yquems, stunning acidity, superb texture, extraordinary freshness, think Beerenauslese feel with Yquem aromas, long finish. 96

Gorgeous Aquitaine caviar matching the white Haut-Brion perfectly

Not the worst place to enjoy a splendid evening
