Mazzei tasting



2011 Fonterutoli Chianti Classico:
Ruby. Fruity, slightly scented, dark berries and cherries nose. Fresh acidity, high of ripe tannins, lively, leaner, fresh, good length. 87

2009 Fonterutoli Chianti Classico:
Ruby, garnet rim. Fruity, richer, quite ripe and intense nose, blueberries and cherries. Fresh acidity, high of  ripe tannins, fruity, lively, rounder palate, long. 89

2007 Fonterutoli Chianti Classico:
Ruby, garnet rim. Tobacco, anise notes, cherries, quite intense. Fresh acidity, high of ripe tannins, fruity, lively, refreshing, good length. 87

2007 Mazzei Ser Lapo Chianti Classico Riserva:
Ruby. Somewhat scented, cherries, leaner nose, nuanced nose. Fresh acidity, high of ripe tannins, elegant and somewhat rounded, mid palate, bit more edgy towards the end, good length. 86

2008 Mazzei Ser Lapo Chianti Classico Riserva:
Ruby. Fruity, scented, somewhat layered, floral notes nose. Fresh acidity, fairly high of ripe tannins, leaner, fairly pure feel behind the slightly rustic texture, good length. 87+

2009 Mazzei Ser Lapo Chianti Classico Riserva:
Ruby. Fruity, floral notes, quite elegant and nuanced nose. Fresh acidity, high of ripe tannins, rounded body and texture, fruity, ever so slightly scented, but dies off a bit suddenly compared with the fruit and body, bit unexpected. Good length. 87

2010 Mazzei Ser Lapo Chianti Classico Riserva:
Ruby. Floral, fruity, scented, quite elegant nose, dark berries. Fresh acidity, high of ripe tannins, somewhat rounder and maybe a bit more polished structure, riper and ever so slightly warm feel to it, good length. 87

2005 Castello Fonterutoli:
Ruby. Scented, fruity, liquorice, cherries, floral, elegant, nuanced and layered nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, elegant and rounded texture and body, balanced, slightly more edgy finish, can be kept. 91

2006 Castello Fonterutoli:
Ruby. Scented, fruity, anise, blueberries, floral, cherries, nuanced nose. Fresh and quite high acidity, high of ripe tannins, refreshing, somewhat leaner palate, mouthwatering, long. Toght structured still. 92

2008 Castello Fonterutoli:
Ruby. More subdued nose, maybe less intense after the 05 and 06, delicate but also quite pure. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, lively and nuanced palate, refreshing, lovely balance, long. Lovely. 92

2006 Mazzei Castello di Fonterutoli Siepi:
Deep ruby. Intense, dark fruits, floral notes, vanilla, anise. Fresh acidity, high of ripe tannins, refreshing and fruity palate, oak tannins makes it a bit dry but the fruit still manages to balance, refreshing finish. Long.  Bit warm. 93

2004 Mazzei Castello di Fonterutoli Siepi:
Deep ruby, garnet rim. Intense nose, dark berries, coffee, vanilla, some floral notes in the back. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, lively but again a bit dry in the finish. Quite vibrant. Long. 92

2001 Mazzei Castello di Fonterutoli Siepi:
Deep ruby, garnet rim. Anise, vanilla, some oak seems to stick it's head out still, prunes and figs. Fresh acidity, high of ripe tannins and wood tannins, fruity, cherries palate, drying palate, a bit woody finish. Long. 91

2010 Mazzei Mix36:
Ruby. Fruity, scented, floral, quite pure nose. Layered and nuanced, lovely. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, elegant, refreshing and nuanced, layered palate, pure, complex and again lovely. Could have been longer. Vineyard planted in 2001, so made by fruit from young vines. 2008 was the first vintage. Keep an eye on this! 93
