Another 2015 Bordeaux tasting

done after the initial primeurs, and again, I find the wines have more concentration, more finesse and better balance than I did back then. Not that I tought it was a bad vintage in any way, but I didn’t really get my thumb up either. That said, I retasted most first growth again now, and I still haven’t given a perfect score. 

But the gap between 2015 and 2014 seems bigger than first anticipated. Most wines have been given more or less the same score as my high estimate from primeurs, a few one point higher than my high estimate. The vintage shows more red fruity characters now (I always found it somewhat red fruity, just not as much as the 2014) and the baby fat is in decline. Most are shutting down now rendering them tight and somewhat unforgiveable at this stage. 

This was a 65 wine tasting, and a bit fever were tasted in early September this year. Back then they were really singing, and those from that tasting retasted now, was much more restrained. It is a classic expression even if the alcohol can be on the high side in some wines. Red fruity, scented, with darker fruits, a fairly lively acidity, with tannin structure on the high, but ripe side. Some seems quite tannic now, but that is rarely a problem with Bordeaux, it is just a question of letting them age. Sometimes for decades. 

Most of these will show very well from about ten years or so from now, even if nearly all can be drunk even now, given decanter time. But there is no development yet. The best are borderline truly greats, they just lack that last little bit. And my sample of Mouton was not even close to this bottle, but I did not have the time to go back to retaste it during primeurs. I understood already back then that I, and some fellow tasters, had had a less sample, after talking to some far more enthusiastic visitors. 

There are some truly lovely classic Bordeaux’s this vintage with purity and details. Enjoy.
