Last, but not least, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, serving one of my absolute favorite Châteaux's, Mouton. And not only that, she is even so generous, she pours the 1986, a wine from heaven, or in her own words, '-The 86 is becoming OK.'! But then again, I haven't tasted the 45, 47, 49, 55 or 59, so I'm sure there are some perspective to her comment.
2006 Château Mouton Rothschild;
Ruby, garnet rim, complex and classic Pauillac in a bit of a rough state now, needs time to open. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, long, but way to young. 94 for now.
1986 Château Mouton Rothschild;
Ruby, brick rim, slightly musty, leather, layers, youthful, but lacks quite a bit from my last bottle. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, long. Doesn't excite, a good wine, one would probably not notice if one hadn't had it before, but one might not understand the enigma..... 93
So, what would be the way forward?
Get another bottle! (This sounds like someone I know in Oslo....)
1986 Château Mouton Rothschild;
Ruby, brick rim, it's back, refined, stunning nose, layered, all youthful and seductive, Pauillac at it's most flirting, gorgeous texture, fresh, lively, tannins ripe and starting to "melt", enormous length! A bit more restrained than the bottle two years back, slightly younger, everything is here. 99
