Visit to Beauregard in Pomerol, and a tasting very few visitors get to try. I had the pleasure to try 2007 Chateau Beauregard from three different barrels.
2007 Beauregard, Demptos barrique, light toast;
A bit green herbal and paprika notes, oak shows well, red berries, very elegant, good balance, fruity.
2007 Beauregard, Nadalie barrique, light toast;
This one more animal notes, like lambchops marinated in herbs, then flowery garden, vanilla, more elegant than the above, not as fruity, great complexity.
2007 Beauregard, Taransaud barrique, medium toast;
Vanilla, oak, cheese, freshly baked dark bread, hay, buter, still very elegant, some sweeter fruits at the end.
I had no idea that the different barrel samples would be this different, quite an experience. The final blend and how the winemaker put it all together is not by chance.
