Ruby with brick ri. Some prunes, leather, stable, cigars and blackcurrants. Fresh acidity, lots of ripe tannins, some earthy, stoney tones, a little simple for this year and status. 88
1989 Chateau Gruaud Larose;
Ruby with garnet rim. Tobacco, perfumed, slight volatility, liquorice, quite mature aromas. A bit lean body, fresh acidity, maturing but a bit astringent tannins, prunes and some warm fruits, a bit short. 88
1989 Chateau Palmer;
Ruby with thin garnet rim. Very elegant, prunes, leather, liquorice, fresh jam, stble, very complex. Exceptional balance, yet again very elegant, fresh acidity, maturing tannins, layered, fantastic long finish. Always a favoite. 94
