Blain-Gagnard, Sandrone, Croix de Beaucaillou and more
2010 Blain-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet:
Pale lemon yellow. Apples, butter, minerals and slightly floral. Fresh acidity, rich feel, creamy texture, good length. 88
2010 Blain-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Boudriotte:
Pale lemon yellow. Apples, flinty minerals and floral notes. Fresh acidity, rich, feels tight, almost smoky finish. Long. 91
2008 La Croix de Beaucaillou:
(2nd Ch Ducru-Beaucaillou) I have been told many times that this in the last vintages have been made from a separate plot of land, like the Clos du Marquis of Léoville Las Cases. But on the estates web-site, it's still explained as a second wine, made from younger plants and barrels not selected for the 'grand vin'. Ruby, floral, scented and cassis. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, a bit lean for a 08, feels fairly easy, balanced, good length. 87
2010 Pelissero Barbera d'Alba Piani:
Ruby. Fresh nose, red berries and scented. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity and good length. 85
2010 Sandrone Barbera d'Alba:
Ruby. Rich, fruity and up front nose. Freshish acidity, ripe tannins, lacks nuances. OK finish. 85
2009 Sandrone Nebbiolo d'Alba Valmaggiore:
Ruby. Again rich, up front and just fruit. Lacks nuances and refinement. 86
2004 Brovia Barolo:
Bright garnet, brick rim. Tar and roses nose. Fresh acidity, high level of tannins, leanish body and drying finish. 89
