Mondavi Reserve and Opus One head to head.

2005 Peter Michael Les Pavots, Knights Valley;
Deep ruby, some blackcurrants, bell peppers, coffee and mocca and almost mineral in the back. Great balance and fruit intencity, good acidiy and ripe tannins with good length. 90

2004 Robert Mondavi Napa Valley Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon;
Deep ruby, sweet raspberries on the nose, some coffee in the back, a lean body with good fruit intencity, ripe tannins and ok acidity, lacks a bit of complexity, and unlike late Mr. Robert Mondavi, maybe some personality, it is all a little too much textbook in a way, does not stick out. When it comes to the table, you know it will be good, but will it be exciting? 85

2005 Nickel & Nickel Oakville Martin Sterling Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon;
Dark ruby, and a very different nose. Some walnuts, dust and above this some sweet fruit notes and spices. Ripe tannins and a good body, the acidity is here, but barely noticable even if it does do it's job quite well. 86

2005 Opus One;
Deep ruby, lovely nose, almost Bordeaux, some blackcurrants, bell peppers, cigars, coffee, vanilla and white chocolate. Then spices, some anis and pepper. Very complex, typical cab. Very elegant structure, good acidity, ripe tannins, very pleasant and long finish. Very exciting. 94
